FAQs

The answer is no. To make a cake topper you use food like ingredients so that it is safe to eat. If you were to print with a normal printer, it would print out with normal ink which you can't eat, and the wafer sheet would most likely break while printing.

Once your edible cake topper is printed, simply seal your image in an airtight bag and leave at room temperature. Don’t leave the toppers in water as they’ll get ruined. Don’t store them in the fridge or freezer either as it needs to be kept at room temperature.

To print a cake topper you need to have a special edible printer. These printers use edible ink also known as food colouring. Upload your desired image you want on top of your cake, then print it out using the edible printer and the edible wafer sheet. If you don't have an edible printer, there are many companies that do make edible cake toppers who can do it for you.

An edible cake topper can last anywhere up to 12 months as long as they’re preserved in an air lock bag. The colours may change nearing the 12 months so it is recommended to use earlier. Ink may fade when stored in direct sunlight.

The wafer cake images don’t have a backing image and are easy to apply. Depending on what icing is on your cake can vary on how you apply the edible cake image. If you have a buttercream frosting, you apply your edible image directly to a smooth surface of the cake icing. We recommend using white icing for the best results, as the rice paper is quite translucent. Let the frosting dry a bit before putting the rice paper on, as too much moisture can cause it to collapse and the ink to run. Working from the centre outwards, smooth any bubbles that may exist, try to use a gentle patting motion rather than pressing down on the image. If you have a fondant icing, the application for the cake image is a different process.

Edible cake images don’t have a backing sheet and are very easy to apply. Lightly moisten the back of the wafer paper. Try not to over-wet the paper as it can curl. Once the surface or the wafer is wet, gently place it on your sweet cake.

There are different types of edible cake toppers with different ingredients. The product we sell is the wafer cake toppers simply made with potato starch, water, vegetable oil.

Edible cake toppers are custom designed cake decorations that are safe to eat. They are made up of natural ingredients. It is compressed into finely thinned out sheets that sit on top of the cake. You upload your desired image onto the cake topper and it prints out your designs using safe to eat food colouring similar to what you use in everyday baking.

the topper image is printed using special edible ink, made from food colouring.

Our edible photo toppers are suitable for vegetarians/vegans and contain no wheat, gluten, dairy products, eggs or nuts.

If it is sticking to the backing sheet, this is probably due to the temperature and humidity in the room. If you have problems with removing it, place the icing sheet in the freezer for 30 seconds to a minute out of the bag until you are able to easily remove it while still in the freezer ( must be frost free freezer, don't let any ice fall on the topper, if worried place on a tray and cover) Repeat if necessary, this is very rare as our sheets are designed to be 'Easy-Peel' sheets. But take care to store your topper correctly and away from high temperatures and humidity.

You can also try drying with a hair dryer, or placing in a fan oven on 40c for 30-60 seconds to dry the sheet out, let it cool down and if it still won't peel put it back in, also use a pallet knife to ease up the corner or bend back the backing sheet a little.

If it's hot and humid it's best to use our icing toppers early in the morning straight from the bag when it's cool and then keep the cake cool until eaten. I would also use the oven method as the freezer method can make them more wet.

Place the topper onto the cake until just before serving if using fresh cream. If left for long periods of time the topper may disintegrate into the cream and the ink will smudge. We recommend sticking the printed icing sheet to a rolled out piece of sugar paste first, this then stops the cream touching the icing sheet. The icing sheet can't go in the fridge so the topper will need to be added last minute.

Store with the plastic backing on until ready to use in the zip-loc bag provided to prevent them from drying out. Store in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Do not open until you are ready to apply to your cake.

You can track your orders by using your tracking number. Click the link and put in your details https://auspost.com.au/mypost/track/#/search

You will need at least 8 inches for the round cake topper and 11.7 x 16.5 inches for the rectangle toppers. It's a good idea to make sure your cake is the same size or a little larger than the cake topper.
